Satellite RS imagery has a competitive strength over any other means in offering pinpoint, high-frequency macroscopic environment images of the globe or extensive areas. It is capable of carrying out real-time acquisition of the latest transportation data of the target zone and dynamically monitoring the targeted objects, restricted by no ground limitations.

VitalRole of Satellite Remote Sensing (RS) Imagery in Modern Transportation

The transportation network has continuously developed and is heading towards modernization, information and intelligence.
The satellite RS technique has been extensively applied in transportation with its merits of wide-range observation, all-round
and authentic information, cost-efficiency and easy updating.
It covers fields like highways, railways, waterways, airborne and others and has achieved favorable social and economic benefits
in road survey and design, traffic network planning, shipping environment, road disasters monitoring, etc.

The Jilin-1 constellation developed by the Changguang Satellite Technology provides all sorts of qualified and precise images and has a unique superiority in transportation investigation and monitoring.
1.10 stably running satellites in orbit, reinforced capability of data collecting.
2.Up to 0.72m resolution images provide more detailed ground truth.
3.Breaking the exterior limitations and provide more qualified and efficient environmental monitoring.
4.The ability and agility to collect date twice per day leads to the maximized efficiency.

Extensive Application

Traffic Network Planning

By combining the spectral patterns of satellite RS images and the existing road network map data, the technology makes it possible for a quick surveying and updated changing info of roads, which greatly lifts up the efficiency and the quality of road change monitoring, provides an efficient, wide-ranging monitoring approach for road network management, monitoring and inspection and solves the high-cost and low-efficiency problems of the traditional info-acquisition methods.

1.Road Reconnaissance Design

The surrounding and landform data of the reconnaissance area is extracted from the high-resolution satellite RS images so as to improve its efficiency, economize the reconnaissance and offers a brand-new evaluation method for intelligent routing and scheme comparison.

2.Shipping Environment Monitoring

Data of the key water surface targets including waterway boundaries, beaches, ships, ports and wharves are extracted on the basis of high-resolution satellite RS images. The multiple spectral bands RS images are applied to extract waterway boundaries and provide new monitoring technology for channel map updating; quickly obtain information of port, wharf, container distribution and quantities, as a technical support for supervision over port and coastal areas.

3.Road Disaster Monitoring

In a natural disaster-prone area which is sparsely populated and has a harsh natural environment, a wide-scope automatic monitoring is difficult to be conducted by neither traditional nor labor inspecting. However, the satellite RS technology, based on the high-resolution visible light and microwave RS, make it possible to periodically and automatically acquire road image data, analyze and monitor road disasters such as snows and floods, and offer a qualified and reliable road disaster monitoring approach.

4.Disaster Analysis and Emergency Response

When a disaster like water-destructed roads, landslides, collapse breaks, roads can be frequently interrupted. Meanwhile, the complex landforms of the destructed road areas makes it prone for a secondary disaster. The unclear situation of broken vehicles and personnel makes it hard for a timely rescue.

The application of high-resolution visible light satellite RS, satellite navigation systems and other disaster monitoring approaches makes it possible for an extensive and rapid grasp of the information of damaged roads, such as location and range and provides technical support for rescuing decision and command.

5.Supervision over Major Project Construction

Satellite RS image data can be applied in dynamical monitoring in traffic infrastructure construction projects such as roads, railways and airports. Construction progress, land acquisition, vegetation, soil erosion and land use can be displayed directly by satellite RS imagery. It lowers the human inspection costs, keeps abreast of the construction information and provides scientific means for project checking, statistics, supervision and management.

The standard optical static image is a standard sub-meter product collected by Jilin-1 constellation, which is corrected and calibrated by radiation and sensors. RPC models and metadata files are available in the general tiff format.
The standard luminous (nighttime) images are standard sub-meter products collected by Jilin-1 constellation, corrected and calibrated by radiation and sensors. RPC models and metadata files are available in the general tiff format.
A standard video imagery is a standard video acquired by Jilin-1 constellation, which has a resolution less than 0.9m after being processed through image stabilizing and framing. Products in both avi and mov data formats are provided.
